The Place – Private House in Nairobi, Kenya. When we first came to site there was no inviting path to the front door. Just a double brick curving path.
The Brief – We were asked to design a new entrance to the front door of the house, to include very shallow steps as the client was becoming a little elderly.
The Design – We sought to embrace the required circular flow of the circulation from the parking to the front door but in a way which embraced the rectilinear element of the house, and thus ensuing that the garden belonged to the house. The design sees a series of stepped terraces which embrace an existing Turrea tree, and include a granite bench. Staggered walls where designed to reduce the view to the driveway.
