Private Garden in Provence – Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Southern France.
The Place – This project is a private house in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in Southern France.
The Brief – We were asked to design a garden which dealt with key privacy issues from the surrounding canal path and road, classic provincial garden brimming with aromatic Mediterranean plants.
The Design – Our design was wholly inspired by the remarkable rocky limestone hills that overlook Les Baux de Provence, and a stone throw from the site. We studied the local limestone hills and as a celebration have included large blocks as seats and features within the design. These stone elements will contrast well as the native plant pallet used in the design and inspired by the species found in the surrounding hills.
The first phase of the garden is complete and we are excited to start the next phase which includes re-establishing a zone of limestone steep scrub planting and then a new olive grove and paths.
