Urban design landscape project, Nairobi Kenya
The Place – A pedestrian walkway and extensive green facade for Phase IIIb at the Sarit centre Mall in the heart of Nairobi.
The Brief – We were asked to design the green facade and also create an activated public access which allows for a stimulating outdoor space.
The Design – The design was driven by the idea of re-forestation, seeking to improve the heat island effect in the centre of the city by planting a forest using pioneer indigenous species and by including a calming rill of water. Our goal – Green wall for parking silo in the heart of Nairobi and a re-forested pedestrian access using indigenous pioneer species to improve the biodiversity in the heart of the city.
What’s been so great about this project is that it has allowed people to stop and sit. Something pretty unusual within the city which lacks public space.
