Private House, River Nile, Jinga – Uganda.
The Place – A remarkable 10 acre site right on the River Nile just downstream as it leaves Lake Victoria.
The Brief – The client’s brief is a sensitive proposal which is dictated by a strong ley line of a 23.5 degree East-West alignment which must determine the key circulation and organisation of spaces in the design proposal.
The key idea is the more formal central circulation path needs to lead down to the river, following the ley line with smaller secondary paths leading around the exciting site. These paths must come across seating areas or areas of discovery such as a stone bench. or a view point.
The Design – The client for this project is remarkable and our design journey has been long and exciting in close coordination with him. We have re-designed the house and met the landscape proposal with simple gestures which simply allow one to embrace the cooling nature of the site and the immense power of the Nile. Going into 2020 we hope things will be finalised, but then with the client building this stone by stone and on a tight budget we expect it to be a few years in the making.
